The mandate for this project was to create a contemporary home that subtly integrates passive technology, so as to maintain a minimal environmental footprint over the lifetime of the building.
The project site was chosen for its spectacular views over the Howe sound and surrounding mountains, as well as for its ideal orientation on a sloping site to take advantage of passive heating and cooling.
Some of the sustainable features included radiant concrete floors throughout, very high efficiency, large operable windows placed for maximum solar heat gain during winter months, deep overhangs and connected vertical spaces to provide natural cooling, a solar hot water system, and flat roofs that can be converted to green roofs in the future.
